Covering Costs and Funding Great Initiatives
As treasurer of the CRPA, I am responsible for the accounting of all the funds in our care. The CRPA relies on annual membership dues from our families in Cornell to finance our work.
We have struggled a bit this year due to the overwhelming growth of our neighbourhood. The cost of producing newsletters and flyers as well as the postage needed for more than 3,000 homes has been astonishing. We also have the cost of hosting this website (mycornell.ca). We find the newsletters the best way to keep Cornell advised on new developments in our area whether you are a member or not but this year we have worked hard so that all of our members receive e-mail bulletins concerning important town meetings and reminders of Cornell events. We rely on additional funding from our annual picnic to aid in funding these costs as well as covering the costs in the annual garage sale and Christmas caroling and tree lighting ceremony.
We have been lucky enough to also donate to some great causes. The CRPA assists Cornell Village Public School in their annual flower sale with all proceeds going to the school. With some of the proceeds from the annual picnic we donated $100 to Shania's Sunflower of Hope. Our annual Cornell Classic Golf Tournament held in September was a huge success raising enough money to donate $1,800.00 to Markham Stouffville Hospital, $1,000.00 to Cornell Village Public School and $1,000.00 to Little Rouge River Public School (the new school in Upper Cornell).
I have only been treasurer of the CRPA since January 2007 and a resident of Cornell since November 2004. I am always in awe of my fellow board members who are attending countless town meetings, spending hours upon hours planning events as well as raising their families and handling demanding careers. Knowing what I know now I urge you to sign up as a member using our new PayPal online payment system for a mere $5.00!

Treasurer
